How to Farm Breach Splinters in PoE 2 Efficiently

If you are jumping into the endgame of Path of Exile 2, you have probably noticed that things look a bit different this time around. Progression isn’t just tied to one massive Atlas tree anymore. Instead, GGG split off certain mechanics like Breach into their own dedicated sub-progression systems. If you want to efficiently stock up on Breachstones, you need to unlock and fully spec into the unique Breach Passive Tree while fixing how you run your maps. Here is a practical breakdown of how to maximize your splinter drops per hour without wasting time.

1. Unlocking and Spec’ing Your Breach Tree

Before you can start multiplying your loot, you need the actual passive points. In PoE 2, you get these by entering the Twisted Domain and taking down Xesht, We Who Are One. Each time you kill him, you unlock 2 passive points. Once you start getting those points, don’t just throw them anywhere. You want to prioritize nodes that directly scale splinter quantity and hand density:

  • Frantic Invasion: This is your absolute highest priority. It increases the quantity of Breach Splinters dropped by monsters by a massive 75%. Everything else builds off this.

  • Waking Nightmare: Gives you a 60% chance for Clasped Hands inside your maps to drop double Breach Splinters.

  • Grasping Hands & Crumbling Walls: These give you 30% to 50% more hands per breach, and add a 25% chance for those hands to be guarded by magic monsters, fueling your splinter sustain even further.

2. Map and Tablet Preparation

If you are just running random low-tier waystones alch-and-go style, your splinter yields are going to feel terrible. Splinter scaling relies heavily on monster density and map modifiers. Here is how to juice your setups properly:

  • Stick to Tier 15 Waystones: Don’t bother farming breaches in low tiers. Rare monster density and splinter scaling take a massive nose dive if you drop below Tier 13. T15 is the sweet spot for maximum yield.

  • Pick Wide-Open Layouts: Only roll layouts like deserts, fields, or open plains. Avoid indoor maps or tight corridors entirely. If a breach ring hits a wall, it chokes the radius and physically blocks monsters and Clasped Hands from spawning. No space means no splinters.

  • Roll for Item Quantity and Rares: Use your Orbs of Alchemy or Chaos Orbs to target high Item Quantity and Rarity. You specifically want modifiers that increase the number of Rare Monsters. The final splinter stack you get at the end of an encounter scales directly with your map’s implicit quantity.

  • Use Precursor Tablets: Boost your maps with tablets that specifically add modifiers like “+3 additional Clasped Hands in Breaches” or give a “10% chance to contain 3 additional Breaches”.

3. In-Game Execution and Movement Strategy

Unlike the old days where splinters dropped constantly as you ran, PoE 2 collects all your Breach Splinters and drops them in a single, massive loot explosion right at your feet once the encounter completely closes. To make that explosion as big as possible, your movement needs to be deliberate:

  • Move in an Outward Spiral: Never run in a straight line, and definitely do not stand still. Start from the center and clear enemies in an outward-expanding spiral pattern. This keeps you moving right on the edge of the expanding purple ring, stepping into uncleared territory exactly when new monsters and Clasped Hands materialize.

  • Prioritize the Progress Bar: Keep an eye on the bar at the bottom of your screen. Killing breach monsters fills it up. If you keep it full, you will trigger a wave of Breach Commanders right in the center. These mini-bosses are your golden geese; defeating them gives you the single highest chunk of splinters per encounter.

  • Stay Inside the Ring: It sounds obvious, but it is easy to lose track in a visual cluster. If you step outside the purple border, you cannot attack or damage the breach monsters anymore—but they can still absolutely shred your health bar. Stay strictly inside the perimeter.

4. The Splinter Conversion Trick

Once you have ground out your splinters, remember that it takes 300 splinters to form a Breachstone in PoE 2. If you happen to be using the specialized Breach Stash Tab, you might notice they do not automatically combine like standard currencies do.

To turn them into a playable stone, just pull a full stack of 300 out into your regular inventory. Split the stack by taking just one splinter out, and then stack it right back together. This quick manual action triggers the conversion script. Once you have the stone, take it over to your tree to open up the boss domain and cash in on your hard work!
